Ribbon-Cutting at Wit's End Kiosk

The Wit’s End Kiosk, located in the Wheatley Lobby, celebrated its “Grand Opening” on January 28.
"It's all about express. Students don't want to wait when they have classes to catch," said Wit's End Manager Billy Indrisino.
For a fast caffeine refuel, students can jump in and out of line at the new kiosk. The stand is filled with blueberry pastries, coffee cake, and orange, apple and cranberry juices. Students can lick their fingers and warm their tummies this winter session to French Vanilla coffee, hot chocolate overflowing with sweet whip cream, and steaming coffee.
"We've got what Sodexho doesn't," comments Indrisino.
The student run Wit's End served its first plates of crispy salads and tasty sandwiches in 1985. The coffee shop has grown over the years and now employs over thirty students. About five years ago, the General Manager of Wit's End Linda Smith- Mooney, came up with the idea of the kiosk but was unable to come up with the funding until recently.
"We are hoping that for the future Wheatley will become a relaxed hangout, like the McCormack courtyard. It is something to look forward to, a nice warm atmosphere for college students to mingle before and after classes," said Indrisino.
Plans have reportedly been on the drawing board for a number of years to add some flavor to the Wheatley lobby by adding couches and carpeting.
"I am very excited about the opportunity to run the kiosk and Wit's End. To help students enjoy the atmosphere of UMass Boston is my personal objective," declared Indrisino ,who's been in the restaurant business his whole life. He's not the kind of manager who hides away in an office answering phones. He likes to be behind the counter helping students.
"It brings me satisfaction knowing that I did a good job," smiles Indrisino.
He also wanted to be sure to thank a number of people for their support for the project, including Linda Smith-Mooney, Kaitlyn Dwyer (for the beautiful window paintings), the UMB Administration, the Facilities Department (especially the carpenters and electricians and Student Life), for making the Kiosk possible, and special thanks to Rita Haider Campbell and Diane Murphy in Student Life.
